Located on the southeast seaboard of the Arabian Peninsula, Oman has become a popular beach destination with thousands of kilometers of clean beaches.
For those after a family beach holiday, the Al-Bustan Palace or the Shangri-La are relaxed resorts with marinas, sports, entertainment and a choice of bars and restaurants… But I am heading into the hinterland. The road inland to Nizwa, the ancient capital, takes me through Oman's backbone, the great Jabal Akhdar - Green Mountain. Jade-tinted crags soar to around 10,000 ft and ridges are dotted with abandoned watchtowers… Travelers have been mesmerized by the sight of colossal Nizwa Great Fort since its days on the junction of Arabia's historic frankincense trading routes. The aromatic resin, one of the Magi's nativity gifts, is still bartered in dusty lanes squiggling at the feet of the fort's massive, fudge-colored towers.
