The Jamaican Cultural Experience

Jamaica boasts of white sand beaches, crisp waters and soothing tropical sounds. The Jamaican saying is "if you have been there, you know"! But Jamaica has more than its beauty to offer and for those who would love to experience the culture in its entirety, come take the journey with me.

Culture

Bob Marley is known around the world as the Jamaican Rasta man who broke the social barriers sang about repatriation and freedom from mental slavery.  His story can be heard at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston Jamaica. Just outside the hustle and bustle of the corporate area along Hope Road, you can sit down and enjoy cool natural fruit juices and even some organic Rastafarian influenced food. Leave with a Bob Marley memorabilia and head on down to St. Ann’s Bay at the Seville Great House and Heritage Park open every day from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Take a journey through the centuries back to the very beginnings of the island's history and culture. It is said that Seville the great house is where the Tainos, Jamaica’s first inhabitants, established their largest town. These Arawak-speaking Amerindians had discovered the island - Xaymaca - some 1500 years ago.

But if you are in the mood for some “Jamaican Folk story” and a live show depicting the Jamaican history then the Outameni Experience would be ideal. Make your reservation online and reduce the hassle of getting in on the last minute.

Music and Food

The Jamaican cultural experience would not be complete without the music and the food. Most resorts will ensure that Jamaican favorites like Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork and ackee and salt fish (codfish) is incorporated in the menu selections. But if you’re attending yearly highlights like Reggae Sum fest which features a host of cultural acts, you are sure to pass authentic jerk pans where you can stop and buy some jerk with a cold Red Stripe Beer.

If you are more drawn to “deep cultural music” then the annual Rebel salute which features acts like the Marley sons and many other deep cultural acts will soothe you on the lush lawns of St Elizabeth.  Whatever it is that makes you happy, you are sure to leave Jamaica with a full stomach, smiley face and a heart filled with content.

I want to go to Jamaica
